Once a site-level strategy for BNG has been determined, our Nature Recovery Consultants and Landscape Architects will work to turn the concept into a realistic design. This will be illustrated on a Site Masterplan supported by a 30-Yr Habitat Management & Monitoring Plan (HMMP) which details all of the capital, maintenance & monitoring actions required to achieve the intended BNG targets, and further supported by a detailed budget calculator modelling all costs throughout the lifespan of the project.
Production of a Habitat Management & Monitoring Plan (HMMP) is a collaborative process that aims to produce a complete toolkit for delivering a successful BNG project. Our bespoke HMMPs cover all of the information required by the Natural England standard template, but are tailored to each individual site with varying degrees of complexity as required. They include detailed specifications for all required works, with Action Plan tables setting out timings and responsibilities. A comprehensive Monitoring Strategy details how all of the various habitats will be monitored to ensure success, and remedial actions for non-compliance.
All of the HMMP works are illustrated on a site Landscape Masterplan which sets out the arrangement of all habitat options, and the location of capital items such as stock fencing and gates. The Landscape Masterplan provides a visual representation of what the site aims to achieve, and a focus for stakeholder engagement and involvement. At this stage it is essential to understand the capital costs for BNG project delivery, and ongoing maintenance and monitoring costs over the 30-year period. We have developed our own BNG Budget Calculator which sets out rates for all actions with allowance for inflation and contingencies, and enables forecasting of potential expenditure and income as a result of unit sale.
